Foxconn to Build Massive 300-Acre Electronics Manufacturing Hub in Greater Noida, Boosting India’s Tech Ecosystem

April 26, 2025 – Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn is set to establish its first major facility in North India, targeting a 300-acre site along the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. This ambitious project, currently in early-stage discussions with the Uttar Pradesh government, aims to produce electronics, including components for smartphones and electric vehicles (EVs), reinforcing India’s growing role in global supply chains.

The proposed facility, managed under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), is strategically located near key infrastructure, including the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar and the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Sources indicate that the plant could surpass the scale of Foxconn’s under-construction facility in Bengaluru, which is poised to become the company’s second-largest globally. While specific products and clients remain undecided, the facility is expected to diversify Foxconn’s production beyond smartphones into sectors like EVs and digital health, aligning with the company’s vision to expand its technological footprint in India.

This development is a significant step for Uttar Pradesh, already a hub for mobile phone manufacturing, hosting companies like Samsung, Vivo, and Oppo. The Greater Noida facility is projected to create approximately 40,000 jobs, including residential spaces for workers, fostering economic growth and reducing regional migration. The Uttar Pradesh government, through its Invest UP initiative, has actively pitched the 300-acre site to Foxconn, building on prior land allocations for a related HCL-Foxconn joint venture focused on semiconductor assembly and testing.

Foxconn’s expansion comes amid its broader strategy to deepen its presence in India, where it already operates facilities in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana. The company recently scaled down operations in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, redirecting resources to high-potential regions like Greater Noida. Industry experts highlight that the Noida cluster, with its robust supplier ecosystem and improving infrastructure, is emerging as a global electronics manufacturing hub, rivaling established centers like Chennai.

The project underscores India’s appeal as a manufacturing destination, driven by government incentives like the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and a skilled workforce. Foxconn’s investment is expected to enhance local supply chains, create high-skill employment opportunities, and contribute to India’s ambition to become a global electronics powerhouse.

As negotiations for land acquisition progress, the Uttar Pradesh government and Foxconn remain tight-lipped on specific timelines or product details. However, the initiative has sparked optimism about transforming Uttar Pradesh into a tech-driven economic hub, with ripple effects for local communities and India’s industrial landscape.
