Tesla Begins Hiring in India After PM Modi-Elon Musk Meeting

Tesla Inc. has started hiring in India, signaling its imminent entry into the Indian market. This development comes shortly after Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the United States. The meeting appears to have paved the way for Tesla’s expansion in India, a market with growing demand for electric vehicles.

The company has posted job openings for 13 roles on its LinkedIn page, covering both customer-facing and back-end operations. Some of the key positions include service technicians, advisors, customer engagement managers, and delivery operations specialists. These roles suggest that Tesla is setting up essential operations to cater to Indian customers efficiently.

Tesla is focusing its hiring efforts in major metropolitan areas, with at least five roles available in both Mumbai and Delhi. The remaining positions are primarily based in Mumbai, indicating that the company may establish its initial presence in India’s financial capital. The hiring spree aligns with Tesla’s strategy of ensuring strong customer service and operational efficiency before launching vehicle sales.

The automaker’s entry into India had been delayed due to concerns over high import duties. However, recent policy changes have made the Indian market more attractive for foreign electric vehicle manufacturers. The Indian government has reduced the basic customs duty on high-end cars priced above $40,000 from 110% to 70%, making Tesla’s premium vehicles more affordable for Indian consumers.

With Tesla ramping up hiring and favorable policy changes in place, the company seems poised to make its long-awaited debut in India. The move could reshape the country’s electric vehicle landscape, encouraging more adoption of sustainable mobility solutions and further investment in EV infrastructure.
